Eucalyptus Product Life Cycle

Follow

Overview

Eucalyptus provides support and maintenance for each of its major product releases for a specified period of time. As major releases continue to be released, older releases are removed from the supportability window, with engineering fixes no longer provided. In an effort to allow our customers to make the most informed upgrade timing decisions possible, we publish our life cycle. As an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) solution, our release schedule is aggressive, so a customer's ability to stay current with their software installations will ensure a smooth support experience should trouble arise.

Details

Software support will be provided according to the published service level agreement for Eucalyptus subscribers. Support will be provided for a period of up to nine months following the initial release of a major version of the product. This is broken into two phases, production (months 1-6), and continuity (months 7-9) of the major release.

Description Production phase Continuity phase
Access to previously released content through the software archives
Self help through the customer support knowledgebase, reference architectures, IRC, mailing lists
Technical support Unlimited Upgrade assistance
Asynchronous security fixes
Engineering code fixes Critical only

Production phase

During the production phase, qualified critical and important security advisories and critical and/or important customer impacting bug fixes may be released as they become available. Other enhancements may be delivered as appropriate.

Continuity phase

During the maintenance phase, qualified critical security fixes will be made available.

Supporting software

If supporting software (for example the operating system) has ended its product life cycle before the end of Eucalyptus support, customers may be required to perform upgrades in order to remain in a supported environment across products and vendors.

Life cycle dates

Release definitions

Eucalyptus uses an x.y.z naming convention, where both x and y are considered major releases (i.e. 3.4.0 and 4.0.0 are both considered major releases). Both x and y releases may contain new features along with bug and/or security fixes, with x releases most likely to contain major additions and/or redesigns.

Under the same convention, the z values denote maintenance releases. These releases only contain bug and/or security fixes, delivering no new features.
