Eucalyptus DNS Needed for Proper Eucalyptus Load Balancer Behavior

Problem

This article covers the issue mentioned in Eucalyptus Jira Ticket EUCA-9181.  The problem is that if Eucalyptus DNS isn't configured for a Eucalyptus 4.0.0 - 4.0.1 Cloud, it will cause health checks to fail for the Eucalyptus Elastic Load Balancing service.  For example:

eulb-describe-instance-health BaseLoadBalancer --instances i-ac3e214b,i-8a823227 -I AKIOQS8WTUDCCYHAKBYQ -S vgT3kgPZHluMIgU4qyatUQsC7PY1geIhnUDIg4sY
Sun Apr 20 11:17:25 PDT 2014
INSTANCE i-ac3e214b OutOfService
INSTANCE i-8a823227 OutOfService

Environment

Any Eucalyptus 4.0.0-4.0.1 Cloud where the Eucalyptus Load Balancing service has been enabled.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please refer to the Eucalyptus 4.0 Installation Guide, and follow the steps mentioned in the section 'Configure DNS'.  If these steps are followed after the deployment of a Eucalyptus Load Balancer, delete the load balancer using eulb-delete-lb, then recreate the load balancer using eulb-create-lb.
