Troubleshooting 'storage.blockstoragemanager' Not Accepting Backend Configuration Changes for Supported SANs

Problem

Cloud administrator attempts to set a supported SAN backend for the SC through the cloud property 'storage.blockstoragemanager'.  The results will look similar to the following:

# euca-modify-property -p acme.storage.blockstoragemanager=equallogic
PROPERTY acme.storage.blockstoragemanager <unset> was <unset>

Resolution

Steps to resolution are as follows:

  1. Confirm that the correct packages are installed on the Cloud Controller (CLC) and Storage Controller (SC) components [1].
  2. Restart the Cloud Controller (CLC) and Storage Controller (SC) with the following command:
    • service eucalyptus-cloud restart
  3. Confirm that all the services state are showing ENABLED, except the Storage Controller (which will be in the BROKEN state), by running the following command on the Cloud Controller (CLC):
    • euca-describe-services
  4. Modify the cloud property 'storage.blockstoragemanager':
    • # euca-modify-property -p acme.storage.blockstoragemanager=equallogic
      PROPERTY acme.storage.blockstoragemanager equallogic was <unset>
